BlackbeltGradings
Two national black belt gradings each year, conducted by a panel of masters and international instructors from the ITA examiner panel.
Successful candidates receive an ITA national black belt certificate, followed by an official degree certificate, degree card and degree number from the International Taekwon-Do Federation.
Format
What the grading tests
The ITA runs two national black belt gradings per year. These gradings are conducted by a panel of masters and international instructors selected from within the ITA examiner panel. Before taking the black belt grading, candidates must complete a preliminary test to assess their readiness to test at national level.
The ITA black belt grading tests candidates on fundamental hand techniques, kicking techniques, patterns, pre-arranged sparring, free sparring, self defence, special technique, power-breaking and theory.
Bylaws
ITA bylaws relevant to black belt grading
- The minimum age to apply for promotion to 1st Dan black belt is 13 years of age. The candidate must be at least 13 years of age within the month of the black belt grading.
- Those testing for 4th Dan and above must have the authorisation of the ITA technical director in accordance with article 15.07 of the ITA constitution. Written approval needs to be sought before the deadline. Candidates for 4th Dan and above must have completed the ITF online exam.
